Is All Mineral Makeup Created Equal?

When I first heard about mineral makeup, one of the things I read was that it covered Rosacea. I'd recently been diagnosed with Rosacea, and if there was a product that could hide the redness and visible blood vessels on my cheeks and nose without irritating my sensitive skin, I needed it! I did some research and then ordered it online. It was expensive but if it worked, it would be well worth it.

As time went on, more and more companies started making mineral makeup. I mistakenly thought that all of the products were equal. Not true. Mineral makeup is often defined as a powder that is hypoallergenic, and contains no dyes, preservatives, or perfumes. I later learned that many of the new products contain preservatives such as methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, and ethylparaben.

I recently saw a mineral blush that listed red, yellow, and blue dyes, polyethylene and other chemicals among their ingredients!

Bismuth oxycholoride is another problematic ingredient. Although it is a mineral, it's not a naturally occurring mineral found in the earth; it's actually a byproduct of copper and lead processing which is used as a filler. It is a known skin irritant which can cause rashes and itching, and can aggravate sensitive skin, Rosacea, and acne.

I do love the way that mineral makeup covers my redness and evens out my skin tone. I've tried both the loose powder and the pressed and I prefer the pressed. I find it easier to use than the loose without the mess.

I started checking the ingredients in search of products that were free of talc, parabens, dyes, and fragrances. I found one that goes on lightly but still offers good coverage, that doesn't enhance the wrinkles that grace my face, and that doesn't irritate my skin...or my nose, which objects to most chemical fragrances!

The Pressed Mineral Foundation Powder that we offer fits the bill...at a great price!

Please note that the foundation powder is sold in a small, plastic container and that the silver compact shown is sold separately. This creates less packaging to end up in landfills! The brush shown is not included.
