Samantha Gibbs, owner of Color Wheel Meals, has put together an e-book called Mommy Menus.
Mommy Menus is a collection of daily kid-friendly raw foods menus from 11 moms, herself included. Each of the moms contributed her bio, a link to her website or blog, and a breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, snack, and drink recipe.
This book is good not only for families following a raw foods diet, but for all families because there’s not a child out there that can’t benefit from more fresh fruits and vegetables in his or her diet!
The majority of the recipes are quick and easy to prepare and use common ingredients. Many have kid-friendly names and are presented in a way that will appeal to kids.
Unfortunately for us, the number of recipes we can try is limited by nut and sesame allergies. We’re able to omit the nuts or substitute sunflower seeds in some of the recipes, and there are some yummy snack recipes, and smoothie and juice recipes that work for us. And Samantha’s Kale Salad recipe is so amazing that I could eat it every day and be happy. Sooooo addicting…
In addition to the Mommy Menus recipes, I’ve gotten more good recipes by following the links in the book to the moms’ blogs.
One thing I love about Mommy Menus is the tips from the moms. My kids don’t beg for vegetables. Okay, I’ll be honest; they’ve been known to run and hide at the mention of veggies! The book reminds me to take a deep breath, relax, and take it one baby step at a time. Just by having fruits and veggies always available, and following some of the other tips, I’ve already seen changes in the way the kids are eating.
I’ve tried, unsuccessfully, to get my kids to eat their veggies. With Mommy Menus, I’m confident that I’m on my way to my goal of healthier family meals!
